<img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2536/4094935528_d99acf9d43_o.jpg"><br /><br />It's November, which in the reggae world means a holiday rush of new music and...it means <a href="http://www.stingjamaica.com.jm/">Sting</a>, Jamaica's most anticipated yearly concert, is around the corner. But some have <a href="http://www.outaroad.com/2009/10/will_ninja_man_spend_sting_beh.html">wondered</a>, what's Sting without Ninja Man? Will there be a "surprise" dispensation for the king of Clash? Vybz, Bounty, Beanie and Movado will just have to wonder until that day...<br /><br />Happy to announce that premier reggae news site <a href="http://www.unitedreggae.com/">United Reggae</a> seems to be back online and in business. The website went away for a minute, but it's back with it's usual cool previews and interviews.<br /><br />Germany's <a href="http://www.echobeach.de/">Echo Beach Records</a> has a really nice Remix edition of the Ruts DC's classic album titled <a href="http://www.echobeach.de/eb_077_ruts-dc_rhythm_collision_reloaded.html">Rhythm Collision Reloaded</a>. Rob Smith (RSD), Dreadzone and more offer dub delights!<br /><br />A new reggae film is making the rounds. <span style="font-style:italic;"><a href="http://www.madeinjamaicamovie.com/">Made In Jamaica</a></span> looks great -- both cinematography and narrative direction. Check it out!<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oAmFcCBZap4&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oAmFcCBZap4&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />Was on the air a week back doing <span style="font-weight:bold;">Saturday Nite Rockers</span> on <a href="http://www.kusf.org">KUSF</a>. It was Oct. 31, 11 p.m. to 2 a.m., also the end of daylight savings time in the US. So at 2 a.m. the clock rolled back to 1 a.m. giving the show and extra hour. Four hours of reggae!<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Some highlights </span>(music featured in the player below):<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Lorenzo & Chezidek "Mr. Officer"</span> (<a href="http://www.irieites.net/artiste.php?artiste=16&nom=IRIE%20ITES%20Records">Irie Ites</a>) <br />A crucial re-lick and livication to the one like Mikey Dread, riding his famous "Roots & Culture" riddim. Great dub versions of this track too.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Monsoon – A Salaam Alikum </span>(<a href="http://soulofthelion.blogspot.com/2009/10/monsoon-delivers-roots-anthem-with-as.html">Soul of the Lion</a>) <br />Really nice roots singjay piece, reminiscent of Capleton or Natural Black. Bigging up the Motherland, Africa, and all peoples of the world.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Rula Brown & Lukie D </span>–<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHISmWOX6kM&feature=autoshare_twitter"> Move Me Baby</a> (<span style="font-weight:bold;">digital</span>) <br />Excellent Lovers Rock tune riding the Studio One / Marcia Griffiths riddim "Tell Me Now." <br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Barbee</span> – <a href="http://www.jamaicapressrelease.com/2009/10/20/barbee-drops-video-for-%E2%80%98feels-so-good%E2%80%99/">Feels So Good </a><span style="font-weight:bold;">(Chi Ching Ching) </span><br />Jamaica's number-one pin-up girl can actually sing. This Dean Fraser-produced tune is quality. Sweet vocals on a modern one-drop beat. A new song that already has <a href="http://www.reggae-vibes.com/jamtop20/jamtop20.html">chart traction</a> in Yard.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Other highlights</span>:<br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Rosey</span>'s Bost & Bim produced track "Love" (Quango), Blackice "Sensimillia" on the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Maestro riddim</span> (Weedy G), <span style="font-weight:bold;">I-Octane</span>'s "ballad of the year" tune "Lose A Friend" (which really is moving), and the excellent <span style="font-weight:bold;">Focus Riddim on Raw Moon</span>, represented in the playlist below by Tom Laing's "Heavy Load." » Giving Thanks for Ras Cue
Date 2010-02-22 | Peaceful Life |

<img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2751/4134606123_8a2a54eb64_o.jpg"><br />Bay Area DJ <a href="http://www.myspace.com/rascue">Ras Cue</a> is alive, and we're all thankful for that.<br /><br />Known as one of the Bay Area's favorite hip-hop reggae DJs, a member of the Urban Umpires DJs and hip-hop group Various Blends, Frank Ras Cue has made an indelible mark on Bay Area night life. Now he needs our support.<br /><br />He's currently hoping for a kidney transplant and has compounding medical and living expenses. A <a href="http://cantstopwontstop.com/blog/benefit-for-ras-cue-health-care-for-hip-hop/">benefit in June</a> helped his cause and spirits, but due to our current health insurance quagmire (pass the<a href="http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/11/07/health.care/"> Health Care Reform </a>bill people!) his living situation is again dire. A few weeks ago his status update simply read "Got Food?"<br /><br />In the public statement below, Ras Cue explains his current health situation, and his hope is palpable.<br /><br />Stay tuned for a big Ras Cue benefit event in January at Club Six in San Francisco, with an all star line-up presented by RedWineSocial and Umoja Soundsystem.<br /><br /><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2588/4135366784_edd438327f_m.jpg"><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Ras Cue gives thanks:</span><br /><blockquote><br />I just briefly wanted to say thank you to you all. Your donations and contributions have been a major help and your thoughtfulness goes farther than words can explain. I'm overwhelmed by the love and care you have shown me and forever grateful. <br />  <br />In short, I am presently on dialysis (where my entire bloodstream is taken out of my body through a big needle, run through a dialysis machine that filters it, extracts the waste and cleans my blood removing toxins), essentially what our kidneys are supposed to do. For me, this process takes 3 1/2 hours, I have done three times a week in which I have to maintain low liquid intact (water weight) and a low potassium, low sodium and low phosphorous diet. <br /><br />December 15 will be my one year anniversary of being on dialysis and i'm bouncing back pretty good after treatments due to maintaining the low liquid intact and diet. <br /><br /> There is much more to the story i will not indulge into now but problems with my insurance and healthcare, the entire system and how it's disfuctional is something I will let be known. I actually almost died NYE '08 when nurses accidently overdosed me with hypertension medication after a rough dialysis session. I had passed out, went into cardiac arrest and was immediately taken to ICU the same night Mr. Oscar Grant died a few doors down. <br /><br />There is so much more to be told, and I am working with a writer to get this information out there so this will never happen to any of you or your loved ones. Simple things as having a good insurance (Medi-Cal is free if you qualify), yearly physical and bi-annual check-ups with your doctor, check your cholesterol level, checking your high blood pressure (buy a kit at a drug store and do at home), easy on the drinking and drugs, eat right, exercise and get plenty of rest and prevent anything like this from happening. I had the pleasure of my parents passing along their family hypertension and heart disease along with many late deejay nights, late night unhealthy meals, a little drinking and drug usage to put me in this dialysis chair i sit in right now. I would not wish what i go through on a weekly basis on anyone but i am happy to be alive and feel blessed. <br /><br />There was a time where I had to think about not being here anymore, my family, my daughter...thinking if this is my time, I can't complain...I've been blessed to see the world and know some of the greatest people in it. I've taken the attitude that this is much bigger than me, there are people having it way more harder than me and if this is God telling me to bring awareness to this disease and the organ donor awareness than this is what i will do. <br />    <br />I thank you again, i love you all and thanks to you, you've made my fight easier to bear and inspired me to keep pushing. If there is anything you need from me, all I have and know is available to you. I'm still deejaying, making music and trying to make a difference in the world. <br /><br />Happy Thanksgiving!<br /><br />God bless, Frankie a.k.a. Ras Cue </blockquote><br />        <br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">PayPal donations</span> for Ras Cue's medical expenses to: rastacuetip AT gmail DOT com<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/9765263-8201316038798224971?l=forwardever.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

The veteran dancehall and reggae star stands <a href="http://www.miamiherald.com/news/florida/AP/story/1380006.html">accused</a> of "conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute" 5&nbsp; kilos of cocaine.<br /> </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /> </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It's important to emphasize the wording of his charges, because it illuminates the level of detail US federal drug officials are going to in this case -- to allege conspiracy seems to imply guilt by association, whether or not Buju was responsible or knowledgeable of a crime. <br /> <br /> There are rumors of a video showing Buju cutting open a kilo of cocaine and tasting it to verify the substance. He's <a href="http://newsone.com/entertainment/reggaes-buju-banton-denies-cocaine-charges/">refuted</a> the charges through his lawyers and publicist, but will still face trial in Tampa, Florida. <br /> </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /> </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">And that's where this case gets sticky. After all, Buju has spent literally months in the headlines of major US publications as his<i> Rasta Got Soul</i> tour was <a href="http://laist.com/2009/10/15/buju_banton_concert_to_draw_large_g.php">protested</a> and picketed by gay rights organizations. The same organizations have also launched a <a href="http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/story/gay-rights-group-protests-bantons-grammy-nod_1125049">campaign</a> against his Grammy nomination.<br /> </div><br /> When the news of his arrest broke, the overwhelming sentiment, as expressed in comments on <a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/gossip/2009/12/buju-banton-arrested-drugs-anti-gay-lyrics.html">news sites </a>in LA, Miami and elsewhere spoke of disbelief and conspiracy. Here are some examples:<br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: x-small;">•&nbsp; "<span id="comment-6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a74c4775970b-content">is this an arrest on a drug charge or is he being charged for being anti gay because all the info i read is about him being anti gay"</span></span><br /> <span style="font-size: x-small;"><span id="comment-6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a74c4775970b-content">&nbsp;</span></span> <br /> <span style="font-size: x-small;"><span id="comment-6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a74d4917970b-content">• "This does not make any sense..Buju does not need to buy or sell coke..THIS WAS A SET UP..."</span></span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: x-small;"><span id="comment-6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a74d8486970b-content">• Im pretty sure Buju is being framed here. If the gays had done their homework, they would know A. Buju has not performed an anti-gay song in a decade and B. Rastafarians don't traffic cocaine, they traffic marijuana. Sadly gays control the instruments of power in our society and they're taking over the globe. They cannot be stopped. See you in 20 years Buju.</span></span><br /> <span style="font-size: x-small;"><span id="comment-6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a74d8486970b-content"><br /> </span><span id="comment-6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a74d8486970b-content"></span></span><br /> <span style="font-size: x-small;"><span id="comment-6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a74d8486970b-content"><span style="font-size: small;">Many posters' sentiments imply that Buju's arrest is part of a gay-led conspiracy to silence his music's hateful rhetoric. Queerty blog recently <a href="http://www.queerty.com/naturally-buju-bantons-coke-arrest-was-a-set-up-by-you-hateful-gays-20091215/">addressed</a> and refuted these tacitly homophobic implications.&nbsp;</span></span></span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: x-small;"><span id="comment-6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a74d8486970b-content"><span style="font-size: small;">There's not space here to rehash the "Buju versus gay activists" saga; needless to say both sides have stridently stuck to their opinions, even when their information is inaccurate (like activists basing their protests around a 15-year old song that Buju no longer performs) or ignorant (Buju's homophobic views based on literal Biblical interpretation). </span></span></span><br /> <span style="font-size: x-small;"><span id="comment-6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a74d8486970b-content"><br /> </span><span id="comment-6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a74d8486970b-content"></span></span><br /> However for more context from a Jamaican intellectual perspective, read Jamaican historian Professor Carolyn Cooper's succinct <a href="http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20091101/cleisure/cleisure3.html">commentary.<br /> </a><br /> <br /> At the least, Buju's character has been permanently damaged in the US, and American fans shouldn't expect him to perform any time soon if ever. Should the charges be true, he faces 15-20 years minimum in US federal prison. Whether it was a set up by US drug agents, bad-minded associates of the singer, or laughably poor judgment on the part of the entertainer we won't know until the facts come out. And when they do, there will sure to be those who still think "dem a plot" against Rasta...<br /> <br /> UPDATE: Buju's label representative <a href="http://www.jamrockmagazine.com/jamrock09/read.php?ID=164&amp;type=jammusic">responds</a>. <br /> <br /> <br /> <object height="344" width="425"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/772bHoG5dfI&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/772bHoG5dfI&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/9765263-1880366023028355277?l=forwardever.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

His gravely vocal style works well in the one-drop format and his songs have featured a host of complimentary guests like Steel Pulse's David Hinds, Gramps Morgan (Morgan Heritage) and Rankin Joe.<br /> <br /> This video aptly sums up the singer's impact and potential. Vivian Jackson) passing.<br /> <br /> I've seen Twitter posts from fans, <a href="http://www.bloodandfire.co.uk/db/index.php">Blood &amp; Fire board</a> postings, Gmail status updates heralding him and a number of well-composed articles. Although the flurry of attention does beg the question of why YY wasn't better appreciated while he was alive, particularly in Jamaica, it's still good to see his works and status elevated now.<br /> <br /> In his usual insightful manner, <i>Jamaica Observer</i>'s <a href="http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/entertainment/YABBY--U-17-10">Basil Walter's article</a> illuminates Yabby's career and struggles with his illness.<br /> <br /> Likewise,<i> Variety</i>'s Christopher Morris <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118013910.html?categoryid=16&amp;cs=1">offers interesting details</a> about Yabby's life and recordings, making mention of his highly regarded dub recordings with King Tubby, and collaborations with Tappa Zukie, Big Youth and others.<br /> <br /> Both articles mention Yabby's own less-appreciated and under-recorded vocal group <a href="http://www.reggae-vibes.com/rev_sin/jahwillb.htm">The Prophets </a>(featuring Alrick Forbes, Bobby Melody and the Ralph brothers). Their song "Pick The Beam" (included on Blood &amp; Fire's reissue of<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Deliver-Me-Enemies-Yabby-You/dp/B000ICLGOE"> <i>Deliver Me From My Enemies</i></a>) typifies Yabby's spirituality, reworking a line from the Sermon on the Mount about judging others: "I've got to pick the beam, out of my eye, so I can see clearly..." sings Yabby. The more you listen to songs like this or "Zion Gate" the more you can appreciate the lasting impact Yabby You has made on reggae as a whole.<br /> <br /> In keeping with Yabby You's cultural reggae traditions, here's a partial listing of concerts and artists representing a positive message:<br /> <span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /> </span><br /> <div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b><u style="color: red;">Thurs Jan 21:</u> </b></span><span style="font-size: x-small;">&nbsp;</span><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b style="color: black;">Army</b> at <a href="http://www.ashkenaz.com/">Ashkanaz<o:p></o:p></a></span><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b style="color: black;">Chuck Fenda</b> at <a href="http://www.moesalley.com/">Moes Alley</a> in Santa Cruz<u style="color: red;"><b>&nbsp;</b></u></span><br /> <span style="font-size: x-small;"><u style="color: red;"><b>Sat Jan 23: </b></u></span><span style="font-size: x-small;">&nbsp;</span><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b>Chuck Fenda</b>&nbsp; at <a href="http://www.rock-it-room.com/">RockIt Room</a><b> <o:p></o:p><u>&nbsp;</u></b></span><br /> <div style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b><u>Sun Jan 24:</u>&nbsp;</b></span><br /> </div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b>Chuck Fenda</b> at<b> </b></span><span style="color: red; font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://www.shattuckdownlow.com/">Shattuck Downlow</a>.<b><u>&nbsp;</u></b></span><br /> <span style="color: red; font-size: x-small;"><b><u>Fri Feb 5:</u> </b></span><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="color: black;">&nbsp;</span>&nbsp;</span><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b>Don Carlos</b> at Moe’s Alley<u><b>&nbsp;</b></u></span><br /> <div style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><u><b>Thurs Feb 18 :</b> &nbsp;</u></span><br /> </div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b>Michael Rose and Twinkle Brothers</b> <a href="http://www.vetshall.org/">Santa Cruz Veterans Hall</a><u><b>&nbsp;</b></u></span><br /> <div style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><u><b>Fri Feb 19:</b></u></span><br /> </div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b>Michael Rose</b> at Shattuck Down Low <o:p></o:p></span><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;"><div style="color: black;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b>Mighty Diamonds</b> at Moe’s Alley<b><u>&nbsp;</u></b></span><br /> </div><div style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b><u>Tues February 23:</u> </b></span><span style="font-size: x-small;">&nbsp;</span><br /> </div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="color: red; font-size: x-small;"><b style="color: black;">Groundation</b><span style="color: black;"> at </span><a href="http://www.theindependentsf.com/" style="color: black;">The Independent</a><u style="color: black;"><b>&nbsp;</b></u></span><br /> <span style="color: red; font-size: x-small;"><u><b>Sat April 17: </b></u></span><span style="font-size: x-small;">&nbsp;</span><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b>Collie Buddz </b>at The Independent</span><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /> <span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b>For more visit</b>: <a href="http://www.ireggae.com/cgi-bin/calendar/calendar.pl">IReggae </a></span><br /> </span><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;"><b></b></span><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;"><b></b></span><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;"><b><o:p></o:p></b></span><br /> </div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/9765263-2504756887888468900?l=forwardever.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

The program focused on new dancehall and modern roots music, with some foundation and old cuts in thrown in as well. But 1992 was also a turning point for reggae in general; it was a peak moment of the newly ascendant dancehall era and major American labels had been on a dancehall and reggae artist signing binge for a few years. <b>Tiger</b>, <b>Mad Cobra</b>, <b>Supercat</b>, <b>Shabba Ranks</b> and others all cut major label deals and their music began being remixed and merged with other urban genres.&nbsp;</span><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Hence, a good portion of this broadcast features reggae-hip-hop remixes that were popular at the time. These tracks are mixed back to back, using the station’s rudimentary belt-drive Techniques turntables. The blends are not all perfect, but live mixing was an innovation back then, especially on college radio.&nbsp;</span><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">The set was recorded to cassette and I have edited out the breaks and back announcing. I believe this set is a good representation of not only the prominent styles of the time, but also reggae's strong ties with hip-hop and vice-versa. It’s amazing to think that “Murder She Wrote” – which is possibly the world’s most recognizable dancehall anthem -- had only just come out. Bogle-dance rhythms like Shabba’s “Ting A Ling” were dominant.&nbsp;</span><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /> </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">At the same time, roots singers like Cocoa Tea and Garnet Silk were starting to revive the dormant melodic reggae scene. All in all, this is a snapshot of ragga 92-style, blasting from the Los Angeles nighttime airwaves. I hope you enjoy this radio selections, and I plan to bring a few more from this era forward this year. Drawing on the rough, raw grooves of the ‘60s and ‘70s and effortlessly fusing soul, jazz, Afro and latin rhythms within their music, they have moved forward the blueprint of Fela, Fania and the funk in entirely new ways, whilst keeping the vital analog grit intact. As a live unit, the Orchestra have become an in-demand fixture at venues and festivals worldwide.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><br /> Having turned heads with two fine albums on Toronto label Do Right!, Freedom No Go Die (2006, featuring their breakthrough single “Mista President”) and Manifesto (2008), Strut are proud to announce the band’s hotly anticipated third album, Rising Sun. Drawing on a wider canvas of styles than ever before, touching on spiritual jazz, deep African rhythms and Ethiopian modes, the Orchestra take their sound to new heights with stunning musicianship and virtuoso arrangements throughout. She's got potent lyrics, a sultry singing voice and gyal caaan style in a she heels!<br /> <br /> Of particular note are a couple of her new videos, which are must-sees. "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fichp4N7Cao">Look Pon Mi</a>" is produced by UK garage guru Sticky, and the beat is a funky-bashment hybrid called the Jumeirah riddim. Mad ting! Tastemakers like SF producer Kush Arora are hammering that one in the clubs.<br /> <br /> Equally hot is the hardcore dancehall bubbler "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVnhcUe7E54&amp;feature=player_embedded">God Bless Me</a>," featuring ninja choreography and exuberant costumes. Storm and her personal stylist are on their game right now.<br /> <br /> Had the privilege to interview Ms. Storm a few days ago. She had just been recording with <a href="http://www.myspace.com/21ward">Ward 21</a>, the forward-thinking Kingston dancehall crew. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with this year given that both W21 and Storm are open to emerging club styles including electro, dubstep and garage.<br /> <br /> Finally, Storm shows her ability to rock a ballad on her latest single, "Permanent Hiding," (<a href="http://www.box.net/shared/bsal9dilzk#">download</a>) a single that swiftly rising on the reggae charts.<br /> <br /> Speaking of new riddims, I'm really feeling <a href="http://www.myspace.com/tjrecord">Linton "TJ" White</a>'s new <a href="http://www.dancehall.mobi/2010/02/07/d-n-a-riddim/">D.N.A. riddim</a>, which has an old school Dave Kelly feel to it. Here's Spragga pon it!<br /> <br /> <object height="81" width="100%"> <param name="movie" value="http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.com%2Fdancehallstraight%2Fspragga-benz-style-d-n-a-riddim-tj-records-21stmp3"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed allowscriptaccess="always" height="81" src="http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.com%2Fdancehallstraight%2Fspragga-benz-style-d-n-a-riddim-tj-records-21stmp3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="100%"></embed> </object>&nbsp; <a href="http://soundcloud.com/dancehallstraight/spragga-benz-style-d-n-a-riddim-tj-records-21stmp3">SPRAGGA BENZ - STYLE - D.N.A RIDDIM - TJ RECORDS-21STmp3</a>&nbsp; by&nbsp; <a href="http://soundcloud.com/dancehallstraight">dancehallstraight</a> <br /> <a href="http://soundcloud.com/dancehallstraight"></a><br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2770/4341888471_72851052f1_t.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2770/4341888471_72851052f1_t.jpg" /></a></div><br /> UK vintage reggae specialist label <a href="http://www.pressure.co.uk/">Pressure Sounds</a> release a special deluxe version of the <i>Harder Shade of Black</i> rhythm. Produced by Leonard "<a href="http://www.roots-archives.com/artist/640">Santic</a>" Chin, the album features Gregory Isaacs, Horace Andy and Augustus Pablo among others. The famous riddim, first made popular by Studio One is an instrumental variation of Lennon and McCartney's "Norwegian Wood." It's been versioned countless times, but Santic's lick drops hard.<br /> <br /> In&nbsp; other news:<br /> • Reformed 80s ska pioneers The Specials will play select US tour dates starting at LA's Club Nokia on April 15 and Coachella Music Festival in Palm Springs (Indio) on April 16. <br /> • Soaring vocalist and DigiCell Rising Star finalist <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaRm73bjb-0">Romain Virgo</a>'s debut album drops on VP in May.<br /> • The new <a href="http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102982246328&amp;s=8050&amp;e=0015IAItx-K68dBTNJbGPky8Kk4fG5Ft4TMrz5ZrTjhc6iP0wsDtEuCQrtwFeJU8BfOl19HhqKW51WRCtbdA4YgiDylpK4zCxCz_KXxMNqlFVQNjEPRGixDpgIbe2bPgnrpI4aiz-KCdPo=">single</a> by <a href="http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102982246328&amp;s=8050&amp;e=0015IAItx-K68fvxC7BbX9F-2ZJ1rjH14kt2BD0h0pa8YkQI41tOkkPxkSKQmxRRTkaus1LIdGfK0BSN5XkU3iDZtpoWyIk-NqN1L-bQgdubKfXN7HTvML7Opt54Zlf4XsE">Monsoon</a> "Keep On Loving You" sees the roots vocalist continue to rise in the ranks with confident conscious music.<br /> • UK reggae/dancehall sing-jay <a href="http://www.myspace.com/gappyranks">Gappy Ranks</a>, who has previously recorded with producers Jazwad, Peckings, Stingray and others, has signed to Greensleeves.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/9765263-3026525366021590360?l=forwardever.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>
